If Barack Obama is elected, will he really bring “change we can believe?”

iVoteAmerica is not completely certain what it will be like to live life in Obama’s America. However, we can prognosticate with some degree of certainty based upon the content of Obama’s speeches and of course, the company he has kept over the course of his political career.

Since revisiting William Ayers and Reverend Wright would be an exercise in futility, let’s focus on the content of his verbiage and the language flowing from his lips. Each reader can determine from the flow of words, past and present, whether they would prefer to find themselves living life in Obama’s America beginning in January, 2009.

Here is the much talked about content from Obama’s Chicago radio interview in September, 2001. Note: the bold emphasis is ours.

If you look at the victories and failures of the civil rights movement and its litigation strategy in the court. I think where it succeeded was to invest formal rights in previously dispossessed people, so that now I would have the right to vote. I would now be able to sit at the lunch counter and order as long as I could pay for it I’d be o.k.

But, the Supreme Court never ventured into the issues of redistribution of wealth, and of more basic issues such as political and economic justice in society. To that extent, as radical as I think people try to characterize the Warren Court, it wasn’t that radical.

It didn’t break free from the essential constraints that were placed by the founding fathers in the Constitution, at least as its been interpreted and Warren Court interpreted in the same way, that generally the Constitution is a charter of negative liberties. Says what the states can’t do to you. Says what the Federal government can’t do to you, but doesn’t say what the Federal government or State government must do on your behalf, and that hasn’t shifted and one of the, I think, tragedies of the civil rights movement was, um, because the civil rights movement became so court focused I think there was a tendancy to lose track of the political and community organizing and activities on the ground that are able to put together the actual coalition of powers through which you bring about redistributive change. In some ways we still suffer from that.

I’m not optimistic about bringing about major redistributive change through the courts. You know, the institution just isn’t structured that way.

- Barack Obama, Chicago Public Radio, September 6, 2001

Don’t forget…don’t neglect…to vote on Tuesday, November 4, 2008.

Setting aside political positions, postures and persuasions, Edward Moore “Ted” Kennedy is an historical icon of monumental proportions.

His career began in November, 1962, one year to the month before the assassination of his revered brother John F. Kennedy (November 22, 1963) and his influence on the American political process has perhaps no rival.

After experiencing a seizure and seeking medical attention, Senator Kennedy was told by doctors that he has a malignant brain tumor. The “Lion of the Senate” underwent surgery on June 2, 2008 and is now undergoing treatment.

The political dimensions of Ted Kennedy are best measured from the historical perspective that recognizes the place he and his family occupy in the hearts and minds of the American public, especially those who lived through the shocking days of the assassinations of John and Robert.

The Brothers Three

The Kennedy brothers, John, Robert and Teddy, represent the evolution of the American political process paralleled by the social upheavals of the late 60’s and 70’s, Vietnam and the transformation of the Federal Government into a people’s government that espoused and pushed civil rights, equality of the sexes, social security, Medicare and huge strides in the place and protection of the underprivileged.

It should be noted that the full impact of the “Brothers Three” on American society and politics is yet completely measured and appreciated. When one considers that these three men spanned the most progressive and expansive eras of American history, both domestically and internationally while playing pivotal roles on the center stage of cultural transformation, their place is monumental.

The impetus and political will power for the exploration of space, the framing of the cold war doctrines, civil rights and the reformation of myriad societal injustices are, and should be, credited to these three.

Ted Kennedy’s Place among the Brokers Three

Ted Kennedy’s position in this dramatic and protracted story of Camelot will always be filled with powerful snapshots that have been tattooed into our memories. These images span the time from Brownie cameras, to Polaroids, to high speed digital photography, a fitting parenthesis that underscores just how much influence the Kennedy’s have had and for how long.

Although there are other less flattering snapshots of Ted’s political career, such as the Chappaquiddick incident, alcohol, divorce and other numerous front page family issues, there is simply no denying a prominent place for Ted Kennedy among the most influential in American history.

Ted Kennedy, no matter one’s political leanings, is forever a man of historical and monumental proportions. We typically label such great people icons. After all, he is forever one of the “Brothers Three.”

There is nothing more entertaining than watching the Hollywood elite in action as they entertain one another in their self-generated, cloistered environments where they can tell each other how great they are, how smart they are and how their views are sooooooo informed.

At the same time, there is nothing more nauseating than watching Babs come out of retirement again and again to headline these galas that have little or no influence on political outcomes and are viewed by most American’s as elitist and smug.

Dangerous and Slippery Turf

The big question is why would Barack Obama want to be seen or known as rubbing shoulders with the Hollywood elite? What possible upside is there? He already has their vote. The obvious answer is money…but that is too obvious.

The dangerous Hollywood liberal turf is an irresistible lure. It’s the lure of the glitter and glamour of those faces we all see on the big screen that make us wonder what it might be like to be like them or how it might feel to be, if only for a night, in with the “in-crowd.”

Not too many Americans can afford to attend any event where dinner tickets cost $28,500 (that’s for one person!). Nor, would most Americans choose to attend an after dinner event featuring Babs at $2,500 a ticket (that’s one person too!).

Ego-Tripping with the Actors

Aside from the money, ego is the motivator and the driving force behind these events and the motivation for politicians to attend them.

Ego-tripping with Hollywood elites projects an entirely different sensation to the factory workers of Ohio, the farmers in Iowa and the men and women working on the assembly lines in Detroit, Michigan.

Barack Obama can’t have it both ways. He can’t hob-knob with the elite while talking about being a common man with a great American story to tell. It doesn’t play in the plains and it will, most assuredly, harm whatever slim chances he has at winning the key blue-collar vote.

While the financial markets continue their collapse and Wall Street is being duct-taped together at tax payers expense, Barack jets to Hollywood to spend an evening with Streisand and her cronies.

Enjoy the music.
