Tom Daschle is no new-comer to Washington, DC. He served multiple terms as a Senator and as Senate Majority Leader. It’s difficult to believe he is naive when it comes to the game of politics, having engaged in some gamesmanship himself a time or two.
Somehow Tom Daschle has managed to find his way to the nomination as head of the Department of Health and Human Services in the Obama cabinet. Daschle is the second tax cheat (Tim Geithner, being the first) to be rewarded with a major post in the administration.
Our new Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner, former head of the International Monetary Fund, had to cough up more than $34,000 in back taxes that came to light during his confirmation process. Geithner’s story was something like, “I didn’t think I needed to pay the taxes because I earned the money as a result of overseas employment.” Is that sort of like corporations that ship jobs overseas to avoid taxes?
Apparently, somehow Daschle failed to report a mere $300,000 in taxable income. Ouch! Tommy was quick to amend his tax returns AFTER being caught. He had allegedly cheated on 2005, 2006 and 2007 returns.
Imagine a Different Kind of Headline
Imagine the media’s response if the following headline hit the cover of the New York Times during the Bush Administration:
“Cheney Fails to Report $300,000 in Income.”
Of course, all is well with the mainstream, liberal media calling Daschle’s problem a “flap” (we don’t know what that is!). Apparently, Daschle’s punishment is to quickly clean up the mess by paying the taxes and then by simply penning the all-too-common, after-the-the-fact regret by letter stating, “I apologize for the errors and profoundly regret that you have had to devote time to them…”
What was that, Tom? You regret that the committee had to “devote time…?” What about, “I am sorry for what I have done to the American people and I am not above the law?”
Apparently, tax cheaters are above the law, at least in the Obama Administration and with the ever giggly mainstream media as it continues to wallow in Obamamania.
iVoteAmerica is now left wondering about all the pontificating President Obama did during the campaign as he railed against government corruption, insider politics and lack of accountability. Oh well, after all, he’s President now!
If the Cheaters were Joe and Jane Six-Pack
What if you and your neighbor had committed the same acts? What if the average American small business owner had cheated the Country out of taxes on $300,000 income? What could you expect if the IRS knocked on your door and said, “you’ve been cheating us, three years running?”
Transparency in the Obama administration means something a little different than we first thought. Transparency ala-Obama means, “I’m going to tell you who the cheaters are, make them say they are sorry and then forgive them so they can help me…total transparency…you will always know who the the liars are in my administration.”
Oh, one final thought. Wasn’t it Vice President Joe Biden who quipped that paying taxes was “patriotic?”
Well, it looks like we are going to have a long four years!
