The Glenn Beck Phenomenon…He is Us

December 17th, 2009 . by iVote

glenn beck flaggedGlenn Beck was once a semi-obscure former disk jockey who landed a seat in the back row of CNN’s Headline News channel. He was allowed to babble as CNN’s token conservative or, quasi independent idiologue so long as he didn’t disrupt CNN’s patently obvious bias for left-leaning journalism. He was never a candidate to fill-in for Larry King or Wolfe Blitzer, that’s for sure.

Beck is not a journalist in the classical sense. He is not a lawyer as far as we know. Glenn is not a Harvard or Princeton educated guy. GB is not a person a network would or could or even should shove into a prime time news slot.

Enter Fox News. Enter Roger E. Ailes, President of Fox News Channel and Chairman of the Fox Television Stations Group. Enter Glenn Beck to a favored opportunity to join the likes of Bill O’Reilly and Sean Hannity as perhaps the most watched back-to-back duo in television news history.

Beck is not Your Run of the Mill Class Clown

Other bloggers and haters of Beck have labeled him as a kind of class clown and someone who lacks the credentials and sensibility to be taken serious.

iVoteAmerica differs with other opinion-makers who ridicule Mr. Beck for his style and choreographed presentations that decidedly paint him in conservative red, white and blue colors.

We don’t doubt for a minute that he is entertaining. Who can argue that his Fox News program and two books, both best sellers, have catapulted him into the star-studded line-up of right leaning commentators?

We want to ask and try to answer the question, why is Glenn Beck such a phenom? The short answer is simple and sublime…HE IS US. He is the average, mainstream, common sense American that tends to see more and understand more than the coastal liberals and left-leaning snobs would ever care to admit, much less believe.

Beck’s grasp of the issues and black board bullet-pointed presentations remind us all of our elementary school days; of our better times and of times of temperance and a life that we long to once again have, if only the government would stop robbing us of it.

It’s the Blackboard, Stupid

We trust Glenn with a trust we have not extended to a media news personality for a long, long time. His black board, chalk and eraser convey a pictorial image of basic, uncomplicated reason with respect to political matters.

Glenn Beck is my boy scout leader (Harvey Gardner) who taught me respect for people, belief in country and discipline and courage. Glenn is my Sunday School teacher, giving me lessons on values and letting me know that belief in God is not only okay, it makes complete sense.

Mr. Beck is my high school football coach (Gary Hall) who could yell at me, call me misguided and lazy and yet, in so doing, challenge me to think more and try harder.

Glenn Beck is a phenomenon because he is not only like us, he likes us! He is like those in whom we have been able to place our trust without disappointment. He is the visage of your and my youth and the times of rational, value-based culture where we were taught right from wrong and somehow we knew the lessons were true because the voice was true.

The black board, the humor, the red direct-line phone to the White House and all of the stage craft utilized by Beck, including his reasoned rhetoric is the missed voice of America, calling us back to the basic assumptions, principles and truths that made us a great nation.

Glenn Beck is a phenomenon not because he set out to be such but rather, because he is simply us and this forces the phenomenon upon him. Glenn Beck is America and American, rolled into one. He is you, he is me and he is us. Thus, he is a phenomenon.

No One Left on the Left

December 17th, 2009 . by iVote

question markiVoteAmerica has, since its inception, invited those who care to blog on the left to do so, free of charge. We now find ourselves in the unenviable or, perhaps enviable depending on one’s perspective, to have no more takers.

Our original concept was built upon the idea of letting the left and the right participate in the same forum, unlike say, Huffington Post and other left-tilted news and blog forums. Seldom do they invite the right to partcipate in the debate. Rather, they seek to eliminate them.

iVoteAmerica wonders why the left cannot survive in the crucible of public debate. We wonder why, for example, the left avoids FOX News but loves Larry King and the New York Times.

Truly, we are confused about the abandonment of arguement from the left in forums such as iVoteAmerica where they are completely free to set forth their ideas, logic and agenda via the this blog as they please and without censorship.

Yawn.

Job Creation: An Out of this World Proposition

December 17th, 2009 . by iVote

moon waterPresident Barack Obama, his esteemed administration and the Democrat controlled Congress have been discussing job creation in ways only a Washington bureaucrat could understand.

The latest measurement of success for job creation is the notion of “jobs saved” versus “jobs created” another insult to the common sense intelligence of Americans.

First of all, government cannot create jobs, except those brought about by massive spending on the expansion of the bureaucracy. In fact, the number one job creating entity in America today is the Federal Governement.

Although government cannot and should not create jobs, it has the power to kill jobs by over taxing citizens, stiffling lending to small business by creating confusion and reluctance and by taking more and more decision-making away from people.

A second problem with job creation being placed in the hands of career politicians and bureaucrats is that they simply, in most cases, don’t have a clue about what makes small buisnesses work. Most of the intelligencia in D.C. has never built a business or taken an idea to market. They have never pondered over leases, hiring, training, equipment, payroll, health insurance, employee reviews, etc. It’s all foreign to them.

Washington’s idea of job creation is akin to tapping into the moon for additional water. Or, studying why pigs like mud and how lady bugs breed.

Finally, and perhaps the worst aspect of D.C. centered job creation is that politicians almost NEVER consider anything without FIRST considering the impact it has on their re-election opportunities and their positions within the Capitol pecking order.

Behind job creation as a “theory” is the over-riding temptation on the part of politicians to create self-serving projects, positions and economic solutions that are about THEM, not US, about POWER and not PEOPLE.

Left alone, the D.C. machine is wholly counter productive to what we, the people (remember us?) understand as a real “JOB” or a real business that must be self-motivated, creative, sensible, conservative and forward-thinking in order to sell products and survices and survive the battles they face which are mostly created by D.C. Those of us who don’t live in Oz know that jobs and business creation in America has always been very, very sensible and not at all complicated, unless of course D.C. muddies the waters with thier filthy self-serving hands.

When the D.C. machine empowers itself as the employment Oz pulling the levers and ropes behind a curtain we can expect to wake up and find ourselves involved in the land of Oz and not the real world of Kansas.

Do not be surprised if NASA’s recent discover of H2O on the moon turns in to a massive works project, funded with your tax dollars and manned with members of the D.C. SEIU.

As we enter the holiday season we can give thanks that the D.C. politicians and bureaucrats have not been able to get to Santa and his hard working, non-union elfs. It should come as no surprise that government can only disrupt reality…yours and mine.

In the Crosshairs of a Socialist State

liberty in the crosshairs

iVoteAmerica Editorial – Alert

The national momentum toward social solutions has placed all Americans who value self-governance in jeopardy of elimination.

Stamping out dissent (including marginalization, ridicule and negative characterizations of dissenters), followed by secrecy and speed of implementation of law and policy are the necessary requisites for a new government hell bent on the implementation of a national socialist operating model.

Welcome to the neo-Orwellian America, where government brings solutions in the form of law to nearly every aspect of life as we have know it; where nearly every action is carefully monitored and every indulgence taxed by the codification of acceptable behavior.

iVoteAmerica believes we are in the crosshairs of a new socialist order and the government is slowing squeezing the trigger that will send a deadly bullet toward the very head of our liberty.

We have never wanted to call the President of the United States and his puppet legislators “Socialists,” but now we must. Yes, we realize that in so doing we have crossed the line of political correctness. However, truth must drive the actions of free men and women in their assessments of a government that no longer acknowledges its fiduciary to the electorate.

As this post is penned (uh, typed), your national leadership has the crosshairs positioned. All that remains is to squeeze and let the deadly bullet of socialism find its mark on the head of America’s cherished liberties. The bullet can still be dodged or, better yet, we can still wrest the weapon of destruction of the hands of the body-elect and disempower them before they implement policies that will be nearly impossible to undo during our lifetime.

Think on these matters.
