Pigs, Pit Bulls and the Cosmetics of Politics
September 10th, 2008 . by iVote
“You can put lipstick on a pig, but it’s still a pig,” said Barack Obama in a stump speech, referring to the statement by Sarah Palin at the Republican National Convention that the difference between a pit bull and a hockey mom was “lipstick.”
Obama made an appearance this morning at a school in Virginia to address the subject of education but was forced by public and media attention to address the lipstick on a pig comment.
The McCain team came out swinging over the pig comment, putting pressure on the Obama team to focus on Sarah Palin, pigs, pit bulls and cosmetics. Never mind the fact that John McCain himself has used the “lipstick on a pig” comment to refer to legislation and politcal distortions in Washington.
We Need a Candidate Code of Conduct
Obama mentioned the students were putting together a “code of conduct” to govern how they treat each other during the school year. He then quipped, “Wouldn’t it be great if Congress could do the same.”
Obama said he needed to divert his comments to the “made up controversy,” referring to the “pig and lipstick” comment that he said was, “taken out of context.”
Obama demanded that the media and McCain “Spare me the phony outrage…” calling this an “innocent remark” and one that “the news media decided that that it should be the lead story.”
Wouldn’t be nice if we had a “Candidate’s Code of Conduct” signed by all politicians?
Is Obama Right on this One?
iVoteAmerica thinks on this one Barack Obama is right and we don’t think Obama ever intended to actually call Sarah Palin a pig. iVoteAmerica agrees with Obama on this one because we are truly “sick and tired of politics.”
Barack is right…”every four years this is what we do.”
Obama then went on to reference education, the economy, two wars…”and this is what they want to talk about…” “Enough,” said Obama, “enough is enough.”
“These are serious times and they call for serious debate…we have real problems in this country and the American people want real answers to real problems…” said Obama.
Is Obama Right on this One?
In a Presidential election, we deserve the highest levels of speech, demeanor and more importantly a specific focus on the policies and programs the candidates intend to support.
Don’t we deserve more? We have a war in Afghanistan, a war in Iraq, problems in North Korea and Iran, Russia flexing its muscles with surrounding neighbors, a huge deficit, housing market in shambles, financial institutions teetering on collapse and a President and Congress with the lowest approval ratings in history.
Don’t YOU deserve more?
This one comment and reprecussions from it, will bite Obama like a wild pig with No Lips!
