Ethics Problem or Cultural Issue for Charley Rangel?

Rep. Charles Rangel (D, NY) is now Chairman of the powerful House Ways and Means Committee. It has also been discovered that Rangel has not been reporting income nor has he been paying taxes on a beach front property he has has owned since 1988 in the Dominican Republic.
Rangel failed to report an estimated $75,000 in rental income and in a press conference blamed the whole affair on some sort of language barriers, cultural issues and the fact that he couldn’t seem to get the necessary financial reports. Rangel explained his problem by saying, “Every time I thought I was getting somewhere, they’d start speaking Spanish.”
Hmmm…? We’re wondering if Mr. Rangel is fully qualified’s to Chair the House Ways and Means Committee with its influence over the nation’s tax code. If the Chair isn’t paying his taxes, can’t get financial reports and has language and cultural barriers standing in his way, what does that say about him?
In fact, the HW&M committee is so powerful, it members cannot serve on other committees due to potential conflicts of interest.
Rangle’s failure to pay taxes and report income wouldn’t be so aggregious if he were not occupying the seat of authority for our American tax system.
Is this an oversight on Charley’s part that should be winked at or, do you suspect that he probably ignored his responsibility regarding the income and payment of taxes on his Dominican Villa?
The issue is under investigation by the Ethics Committee.
What a joke! Just more of the same.
More than likely, a slap on the wrist, pay the back taxes, and Charley’s issues go away like do most that are under investigation by the Ethics Committee.
Rangel is simply unethical and needs to be removed from his office. This is the corruption that has to be ferreted out and bansidhed.
