Hillary Delivers Noble Surrender

August 27th, 2008 . by iVote

Hillary Clinton delivered her acceptance of defeat speech to a fired-up capacity crowd in Denver, Colorado last night.

It was a noble surrender from the once proud and self-assured front-runner for the Democratic nomination for President of the United States.

Hillary’s speech was a dutiful call for unity and a predictable litany of anti Bush/McCain bullet points interspersed with feigned support for Obama. It was, in the opinion of iVoteAmerica, Hillary’s “Look how noble I am…look how strong I am…I’ll be back” speech.

The speech was necessary and it was a kind of humiliating moment for the Clintons who once believed that they were untouchables with respect to their place and legacy in the Democratic Party. Who can forget Bill’s stump remark about the validity of Barack Obama’s campaign when he said, “…give me a break, this whole thing is a fairy tale.” Bill woke up last night from the “fairy tale” to face and taste the bitter defeat by a Senator from Chicago with less than 200 days on duty in the Senate.

Naturally, the camera focused an inordinate amount of attention of daughter Chelsea and hubby Bill, the later biting his lower lip and showing the camera a dose of tearful admiration for Hillary. There were several break-away shots of Chelsea gazing faithfully at mother Hillary throughout the surrender speech.

It’s over for Hillary…at least for now. There will be a few more days of whimpering from her surrogates and then they will disappear into the political woodwork leaving Barack Obama at center stage to compete with John McCain for the Presidency.

She ran an extensive and expensive campaign. She’ll be mostly out of the public eye but, I imagine we’ll see her doing interviews or donating her time to help Barack’s campaign here and there. She has no choice but to fully endorse the Democratic contender at this point.

I wonder how she felt when Barack picked Biden as his VP nom.

Now she just has to deal with some debt…
