Why O’Reilly is #1

Bill O’Reilly remains at the top of the ratings heap for a lot of reasons. Plain talk, wit, intelligence, research, accuracy and confrontation of phonies being among the many.
But there are four other less tangible reasons for Bill’s ratings. These reasons, although much more subtle than the more obvious are nonetheless powder in the cannon of O’Reilly’s successful bazooka.
The General Public. The public is generally far more conservative than most media outlets want to admit or even know. Bill calls these people the “folks,” his term for middle America’s millions of working and family people. When he says, “We’re looking out for you,” he’s also right because no other anchor or main stream media outlets have ever “looked out” for middle America.
The Waning Corrupt Liberal Media. What Bill has done is expose what most Americans have known intuitively to be true…the mainstream media outlets are liberally biased and patently unfair when it comes to reporting. They have an ax to grind. O’Reilly’s exposure of the corrupt, left-leaning media power base has begun to cripple the New York Times, the Los Angeles Times and NBC News, thus improving Bill’s ratings.
The Confrontation of Wrong. This one is perhaps the most powerful reason for Bill O’Reilly’s ascension to and reign at the top. He confronts things that are wrong. Almost single handily he has pushed for and succeeded in getting Jessica’s Law passed in dozens of States. The American public believes in right and wrong, black and white and a set of historical moral absolutes. The mainstream media doesn’t want to acknowledge this fact and therefore, the public distrust and rejects their biased reporting.
The Real Bill O’Reilly. When you watch Bill, you are watching Bill. What you see IS Bill. The O’Reilly Factor is Bill’s world view on stage and without pretense in what he calls the “No Spin Zone.” Therefore, the public accepts the credibility of O’Reilly’s messages. Bill is more like Americans than are his network anchor counterparts; therefore, there comes with him a stamp of credibility.
The mainstream media culture remains a powerful force. However, it appears that Bill’s brand of journalism AND their plummeting ratings (aka loss of ad revenue) are creating a double-take as the likes of Glenn Beck start to surge even at the left tilting media outlet the likes of CNN.
It’s a simple marketing equation: Bill O’Reilly is number one because he is like middle America.
